Openings

The Fine Arts League of Cary’s 2015 Annual Member Exhibition and “Functional Art Pottery” by Kenneth Neilsen open with receptions from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center, 119 Ambassador Loop, Cary. The Fine Arts League of Cary exhibition is in the first and second floor galleries and Neilsen’s pottery is in the lobby display case.

Handel’s ‘Messiah’

The Cary Community Choir’s 45th annual presentation of Handel’s “Messiah” is at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian Church, 200 West High Drive, Cary. Admission is free. carycommunitychoir.org.

Really Terrible Orchestra of the Triangle

The Really Terrible Orchestra of the Triangle plays “Seasons in Time” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, at the Cary Arts Center, 101 Dry Ave. Tickets are $9 at The Cary, 122 E. Chatham St.; online at etix.com; or an hour before the performance at the Cary Arts Center. rtoot.org.

‘Frozen’

The Cary theater screens “Frozen” at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, for $5 at 122 E. Chatham St.

Raleigh Boychoir

The Raleigh Boychoir Performing Choir and Young Men’s Ensemble perform at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center, 119 Ambassador Loop, Cary. Tickets are $16, available in advance at The Cary, 122 E. Chatham St., by phone at 1-800-514-3849 or online at etix.com.

‘Powerful Medicine: Simply Magic’

“Powerful Medicine: Simply Magic” will be shown at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, at The Cary, 122 E. Chatham St. A question-and-answer session with director Kevin Spencer will follow. Tickets cost $5.

Discovery Series

The Holly Springs Cultural Center’s Discovery Series of performances is at 7:30 p.m. one Friday each month this fall through spring at 300 W. Ballentine St. Tickets cost $5.

Classical Christmas music with Oak City Brass will be on Dec. 18. “Wire Boy” will be on Jan. 22. The Holly Springs Professional Showcase will be Feb. 12. “Place Match: The City Doctor’s Guide to Finding Where You Belong” with Dr. Katherine Loflin will be March 11.

Chinese lantern festival

The North Carolina Chinese Lantern Festival runs through Sunday, Jan. 3, at Koka Booth Amphitheatre, 8003 Regency Parkway, Cary. Tickets are $20 for ages 18 and older, $12 for ages 3-17 and free for ages 2 and younger. A pack of four costs $50. boothamphitheatre.com.

Aviation Art Contest

The N.C. Department of Transportation is accepting entries from ages 6-17 through Jan. 22 for the Aviation Art Contest. This year’s theme is “Air Sports in Harmony with Nature.” bit.ly/1HzqmBX.

‘For All the Seasons’

The Cary Town Band’s concert “For All the Seasons” is at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, at the Cary Arts Center, 101 Dry Ave. Admission is free.

Small Treasures

The Cary Gallery of Artists’ eight annual Small Treasures Juried Exhibit runs from March 25 through April 23. Entries and fees are due by 11:59 p.m. Friday, March 4. carygalleryofartists.org.
