Thrift 2 Gift, a nonprofit thrift store in Cary and Apex, will hold a customer appreciation sale throughout December. Everything but furniture is half off. Stores are at 900 E. Chatham St., Cary, at 1402 E. Williams St., Apex.

Creature Comforts Animal Hospital invites kids to learn about veterinarians’ work from 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at 3435 Kildaire Farm Road, Cary. Ages 5-10 will read “Cha Cha Chocobelle” with Dr. Betsy Sigmon, listen to a dog’s heartbeat, view radiographs and more. Parents are asked to stay with their children. RSVP: 919-387-3435.

Tony Castillo and John Zabriskie were named to Partner at Harold K. Jordan & Company, Inc. in Apex.

Dr. Raja Jothi of Cary, a researcher at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, received tenure.

Surgeons Dr. Meredith Kapler, Dr. Meghan Kruse and Dr. Mischa McDonald-Lynch joined the Veterinary Specialty Hospital of the Carolinas, based in Cary, as well as radiologist Dr. Maureen Levesque and oncologist Dr. Rebecca George. vshcarolinas.com.

Atlantic Tire & Service received the Top Shop Award from Tire Review magazine.

Brew N Que in Cary won the 2015 Craft Services and Restaurant Award’s Favorite Barbeque Category.

Fit & Able Productions, Inc., which organizes athletic events in Cary, was recognized by Endurance Magazine for five events and Team Fit & Able.

Food service director Kevin Johnson at SearStone in Cary won the Enhancing Resident Experience Award from Sodexo Global at a national awards banquet.

Kelly Spainhour was named Cary’s Employee of the Year. Spainhour is the South Cary Water Reclamation Facility laboratory supervisor.

Jim Trull with Keystone Financial Partners in Cary earned the Women’s Choice Award for Financial Advisors and Firms for 2016 from WomenCertified Inc.

Bill Zadeits, president of Cherokee Media Group in Cary, was named the National Auto Auction Association’s 89th Warren Young Sr. Fellow at the National Remarketing Conference in Arizona.

Philanthropy

The Center for Volunteer Cargiving organized 45 volunteers for Wake Rake, in which volunteer teams raked yards and helped with other yardwork at the homes of people with disabilities in Wake County. The teams, including 18 students from Fuquay-Varina High School’s National Honor Society, worked on 11 yards on Dec. 12.

Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy in Morrisville donated $5,500 in gift cards to the Duke Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant Family Support Program. The academy raised money during an annual fall festival raffle.

Riccobene Associates Family Dentistry worked with the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle to give holiday dinners to more than 200 children in Read and Feed’s tutoring program at Apex United Methodist Church earlier this month.

SearStone, a retirement community in Cary, worked with students of Davis Drive Middle School to recycle sheets donated by the Umstead Hotel and Spa. The sheets were made into more than 1,000 bandages for Global Health Ministries.
