Community Notes: Dec. 16-19

Here are upcoming events for Apex, Cary, Fuquay-Varina, Holly Springs and Morrisville.

Hemlock Bluffs

The Stevens Nature Center hosts activities for kids at Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve, 2616 Kildaire Farm Road, Cary. Registration costs $12 for Cary residents and $16 for non-residents unless another price is given. 919-387-5980.

▪ Nature Nuts: White-tailed Deer (ages 3-5 with a parent): 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19. $10 for Cary residents, $13 for non-residents.

▪ Eco Express: Salamander Search (ages 8-12): 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Dec. 21.

▪ Kids Fun-Days: Amphibian Antics (ages 5-8): 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22.

Book signing

AlexSandra Lett, author of “The Harvest, Timeless Lessons for an Abundant Life,” will sign books from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, at The Matthews House, 317 W. Chatham St.

New Year, New You

Cary’s New Year, New You: Fitness Kick-Off event with free fitness classes and nutritional workshops runs from Monday, Jan. 4, through Friday, Jan. 8, at Bond Park Community Center, 801 High House Road. Classes run from noon to 1 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. each day.

NAMI Family-to-Family

The National Alliance on Mental Illness Wake County offers Family-to-Family classes for friends and family members of adults with mental illnesses. One 12-week course will meet from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturdays in downtown Raleigh. A six-week course will meet 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays in Cary.

Three Kings Day Parade

Cary’s Three Kings Day Parade is 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at the town’s Town Hall Campus, 316 N. Academy St.

Family Trivia Night

Family Trivia Night for family teams, ages 5 and older, is 7-9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, at Bond Park Community Center, 801 High House Road, Cary. Registration is required and costs $7.

Daddy-Daughter Dance

The Daddy-Daughter Dance for fathers with 4- to 12-year-old daughters is 6-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, at the Cary Senior Center, 120 Maury Odell Place. Tickets are $39 for a pair and $17 for an additional daughter.

Tobacco Road Marathon and Half-Marathon registration

Registration is open for the annual Allscripts Tobacco Road Marathon and the GNC Half Marathon to be held Sunday, March 13, along the American Tobacco Trail, starting in Cary. Registration fees are $90 for the marathon and $80 for the half marathon. Registration will increase incrementally until the run. All proceeds go to JDRF, the Wounded Warrior Project, the American Red Cross and the Rails to Trails Conservancy as well as Wake County Parks and Recreation.
