Hemlock Bluffs

Beer, Bourbon & BBQ

The Beer, Bourbon & BBQ festival is Friday, Aug. 5, and Saturday, Aug. 6, at Koka Booth Amphitheatre, 8003 Regency Parkway, Cary.

Tickets for the whole hog pig-picking from 6-10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, are $49 in advance and $55 the day of the event. The event is from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6. Take a Kid to the Ballgame

Area Rotarians are seeking sponsors for its annual Take a Kid to the Ballgame event at 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The event is the first Bulls game for many children. Bingo Night

Blood drive

The Knights of Columbus and Rex Blood Services will host a blood drive from 2-6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, in the church hall at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 1005 Wilbon Road, Fuquay-Varina. Wild animals

Derek Davis 5K

The Derek Davis Memorial 5K Run begins at 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at Holly Ridge Elementary, 900 Holly Springs Road, Holly Springs. The run/walk event is a fundraiser for the Derek Davis Memorial Foundation, which provides college scholarships to high school cross-country runners. Cost: $30 by Aug. 17; $35 day of the race. Miles for Melanoma

The Miles for Melanoma 5K run/walk fundraiser will begin at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at Wake Med Soccer Park, 201 Soccer Park Drive, Cary. Crabtree Casters

Fish for free from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 7 and 21, at Lake Crabtree County Park, 1400 Aviation Parkway, Morrisville. Park staff will provide bait and basic instruction. BBQ, Blues and Brews

Registration is under way for the BBQ, Blues and Brews barbecue cook-off competition in downtown Fuquay-Varina. The fundraiser is scheduled from 1-6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, on Broad Street in the historic Varina district and also will feature bluegrass music and craft beer. Suicide prevention

Registration is open for the Out of the Darkness Walk, Fuquay-Varina, scheduled from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at the South Park trail head of the Jeff Wells Environmental Trail.

The Fuquay-Varina Police Department is partnering with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to host the fourth annual fundraising event. For more information and to register: bit.ly/1R6mF4w.

Cary Unity Walk

Registration is under way for the first Cary Unity Walk at 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12. The walk will begin in downtown Cary and travel to Wake Med Soccer Park, 201 Soccer Park Drive. Afterward, the Unity Festival, featuring mile, 5K and 10K runs, entertainment and vendors, will be held at the park. The event will benefit area nonprofits. Tobacco Road Marathon

Registration is under way for the Allscripts Tobacco Road Marathon and Half Marathon scheduled for March 19, 2017, on the American Tobacco Trail. The event is a fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the American Red Cross, the Rails to Trails Conservancy and Wake County Parks and Recreation.
