Victoria Madsen, 94, passed away on January 12 following a period of declining health.
She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Kingsley of Copenhagen, Denmark; and her sons, Wayne Madsen and wife, Maria of Cary; and Craig Madsen and wife Corrine of Cary. “Nanny” is also survived by her brother, Kenneth Katen and wife, Joan; her sisters-in-law, Pauline Katen and Jeanette Katen, all of New Jersey; her 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Victoria was born in Iselin, New Jersey, the youngest daughter of the late Kamel Katen, Sr. and Bassima Shohfi Katen. She was predeceased by her husband, Mogens Madsen. Victoria was also preceded in death by her siblings, Gladys, Mary, Edward, Lilly, Albert, Alfred, Evelyn, Victor, Howard, and Kamel, Jr. Victoria devoted her life to the care of her family and she loved to bake her special “butter cake” for all who were nearby. She helped pass along the Syrian cuisine of her parents, teaching her grandchildren how to stuff and roll grape leaves. Victoria and Mogens spent many years in Toms River, NJ and owned and operated Madsen's for Men, a fine men's clothier. They enjoyed many trips to Denmark and Germany in the 1980's when all of their children were working in Europe.
Victoria was a kind and gentle soul who will be missed by all of her family.
