Barbara Brown Castrodale, a longtime resident of Western Pennsylvania and then Westerville, Ohio, died on January 31st at age 86. Most recently, she lived in Cary. Barbara received her bachelor’s degree from Penn State University and then a master’s degree in advertising from the University of Pittsburgh. While at Pitt, she met the love of her life, Nelson, who became her husband of 61 years. Barbara held a variety of jobs, including as a high school teacher and advertising copywriter. But she will be best remembered for being a loving and devoted wife, mother, and friend and for her multiple post-retirement interests and accomplishments, as a family historian, artist, avid reader, and conversationalist. Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Nelson; parents, Thomas and Cleo Brown; and brothers, James, Robert, and David Brown. She is survived by her sons, Grant (Debbie) Castrodale and Neil (Susie) Castrodale; daughter, Beth (John E. Sullivan III) Castrodale; grandson, Brett Castrodale; granddaughters, Krista, Dara, and Logan Castrodale; brother, Charles Brown; sisters-in-law Ruth Brown, Dolores (Louis) Havel, and Louise Blue; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Westerville Public Library or the Lupus Foundation of America.
