Lt. Colonel Robert "Bob" Pierce passed away at the Hospice Home in Raleigh, Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
He started his career as a Junior Chemist with DuPont Corporation in 1960. Shortly thereafter, he graduated from Mansfield College and took a position as a math teacher at Montrose High School, Montrose, PA.
In 1962, Bob entered the United States Air Force and served until 1983 in Communications-Electronics (C&E). He served his country in many capacities, was a veteran of the Vietnam War, and retired as Unit Commander and Professor of Aerospace Studies at the University of Miami, Miami, Florida.
He was an avid Scuba Diver, fisherman, and outdoorsman. He invested a great deal of time and care in the senior community and in tennis, a sport he dearly loved for both the sportsmanship and people involved.

He was a long time member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.
Bob chose to donate his body to MedCure, in hopes of helping others overcome their illnesses through donor-based research.
Bob is survived by his wife Dolores, sister Jennifer, sons Chris, Rob, and Ryan, daughters Lisa and Kathy, and grandchildren Austin and Jordan.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in his name to Hospice of Wake County.
