Peacefully in his sleep Elmer Miller passed into the heavenly hunting and fishing grounds he loved so much. His canine companion Sam was there waiting for him. Surviving is the love of his life, wife Mae Miller of Cary NC. Some of his last words spoken was to tell her he still loved her. Also surviving is his daughter Paige Miller Haggett and granddaughter Haileigh Haggett which live in Cary at the home with Mae. His daughter Wendy Miller Purser and spouse Neal Purser along with grandson Cameron Harris Purser live in Hampstead NC where Elmer made his home. He also leaves a close companion Bobby Testerman his caretaker for many years. Elmer was born in Newburgh New York to Eleanor Bilyou and Robert John Miller. His brother Jack predeceased him. Elmer was the youngest person ever admitted to Saint Thomas Choir School in NY,NY at the age of 8. He loved the museums of New York City. He graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in '51 and attended Kent School in CT before he worked in sales for Silk Electric in Newburgh. He entered the Army in '53 where he made rank of Sgt. He received the Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He married Mae Buckley of Newburgh October 31, 1958 . At this time he began employment with IBM and shortly transferred to NC. He worked for IBM for 17 years and left there to continue in the swimming pool business. After owning his own pool company for decades he worked for ICI Americas in sales introducing throughout the south east states the new product Baquacil. Elmer loved sports and played them as a youth and as an adult. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He retired and lived in Hampstead NC a small coastal town.
