Mills Park parents don’t want a calendar conversion. And who can blame them, considering the Wake County school board has removed choice in education and most parents will be forced to stay on a year-round calendar that doesn’t work for them?
Sadly, I’m certain that most of the parents who gave their child a nicely written sign and walked in “protest” didn’t bother to do their research about who they voted for to represent their interests. Or maybe they didn’t vote at all. To date, western Wake’s school board rep, Susan Evans, has done nothing to address the needs of our community. (Well, except create a fight over the naming of a high school and cap eight of our schools.)
And, to boot, she publicly announced that the 2013 school bond approved by voters should be used to build schools toward the center of the county, not in western Wake. So, Mills Park parents, and all parents, for that matter – don’t hold your breath. You may get what you want for now, but there will be another set of families waiting in line.
