Barbara Gilligan: Photos show poor taste

Drag queen photos offensive

The pictures posted on the front page of The Cary News titled “What A Drag” are offensive and a horrible example to families and children. I will no longer donate the newspaper to Newspapers in Education as I have done in the past.

The description of the photos say that drag queens “led the crowd in a raucous game of bingo” to raise money for Alliance of AIDS Services Carolina. There are numerous ways to raise money for AIDS services without creating a spectacle. I wonder if The Cary News would post such fund-raisers on the front page.

Are there any responsible adult decision makers for the events approved at Koka Booth Amphitheatre or for what is considered appropriate content for The Cary News? New direction and new leadership are needed as this entire chain of events is neither entertaining nor respectful toward anyone.
