The Cary Invasion couldn’t quite make it two in a row.
The Invasion lost in Saturday’s Tobacco Road Basketball League championship game to the PrimeTime Players of Fort Mill, S.C., 123-103.
The game capped the first year of the TRBL but the second consecutive season in which the Invasion were in a league championship game.
PrimeTime never trailed in the second half, exploding for 43 points in the third quarter to all but wrap up this year’s title.
Tournament MVP Antonio Houston scored 33 points for PrimeTime, while Donald Rutherford chipped in 21. Former Invasion player Malachai Jones tallied 16 points and 13 rebounds to register the team’s only double-double on the day.
Cary was led by Jon Moore, Brock Young and Daniel Jackson, who had 20, 19, and 18 points, respectively. Jackson also grabbed 12 boards to earn the Invasion’s only double-double.
PrimeTime finished the season on a 13-game winning streak, with the only blemish on the schedule coming in the season opener at Wilmington.
Cary ended its year 10-4 overall, with three of its losses coming to PrimeTime. The Invasion are 22-5 in their two years of existence.
All-league: The TRBL announced its all-league teams at the end of the regular season. The Invasion’s Freddie Little (18 points per game) was on the first team, while Moore made the second team and Jackson was awarded honorable mention.
