A resident drove through a store in the Boone Square shopping center in Hillsborough shortly before 9:30 a.m. Friday.
The 87-year-old Hillsborough man was parking in front of Postal Connections, 169 Boone Square St., when his vehicle struck another vehicle.
“We think when he hit the other vehicle, it startled him,” Hillsborough Police Lt. Andy Simmons said in a town news release. “When he went to hit the brakes, he accidentally hit the gas instead.”
The Dodge Caravan minivan drove through the front of the postal, packing and shipping store, stopping at the back of the building. Two employees were in the store at the time. One suffered minor injuries, the release said. The driver was not hurt.
No charges will be filed against the man, whose name was not released.
The Orange County building inspector and Hillsborough fire marshal are working with the store’s owner to determine the process for reconstruction of the store.
In addition to the building inspector and fire marshal, the following agencies responded to the call: Hillsborough Police Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Orange Rural Fire Department, Orange County Emergency Services and State Highway Patrol.
