Joanna Sanfilippo

will join Capstrat’s new business team for one semester as the recipient of the Capstrat Scholarship. Capstrat is a communications agency based in Raleigh. Sanfilippo plans to graduate from UNC-Chapel Hill in May with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication and a minor in Hispanic Studies.

Emmy Soll

of Chapel Hill has been awarded the Girl Scout Silver Award by Girl Scouts – N.C. Coastal Pines. The Silver Award is the second highest achievement in Girl Scouting. For her Silver Award project, Soll reached out to youth who had been prescribed a back brace for scoliosis to give them tips on dealing with the brace. Drawing from her personal experience and extensive research on the topic, Soll created a brochure, website, and Facebook page that give information, support, and encouragement to young people learning to adapt to the back brace. Soll is the daughter of Jack and Renuka Soll, and is a member of Girl Scout Troop #862.

Elle Weeks

has been named to the Dean’s List of Macalester College for the Fall 2014-15 semester. Weeks is the daughter of Cynthia and Kevin Weeks of Carrboro and a graduate of Chapel Hill High School. To be eligible for the Dean’s List, Weeks had to maintain a GPA of at least 3.75 with 12 or more credit hours and no grade below a C-.

Alex Brestin

of Chapel Hill is one of 96 men and women pledging to perform ten months of national service as part of the Atlantic Region’s 21st Class of the National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC), an AmeriCorps program. Brestin and his team will work on a variety of projects focusing on disaster response and recovery efforts.
