Strowd Roses

Strowd Roses will accept grant proposals from individuals or tax-exempt organizations based in Chapel Hill or Carrboro, or serving those communities’ residents, through Saturday, Jan. 31. strowdroses.org.

Kehillah Synagogue

Kehillah Synagogue’s Annual Yard Sale fundraiser for educational programs will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, at 1200 Mason Farm Road, Chapel Hill. kehillahsynagogue.org.

Cornucopia Cancer Support Center

Cornucopia Cancer Support Center will host the Chocolate 5K on Saturday, Feb. 7, to raise money to help people in the Triangle who have cancer. The walk and race will be at Duke University. Registration costs $30 per person, or $25 for each person in a team of four or more.

A Chocolate Affaire will be on Sunday, Feb. 8, at the Sheraton, 1 Europa Drive, Chapel Hill. There will be chocolate from more than 30 local restaurants, live and silent auctions and a Best of Chocolate Hill dessert competition. Tickets cost $60. 919-401-9333, cancersupport4u.org.

Jabberwock 2015

The Durham Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will host the Jabberwock 2015 gala to raise money for the chapter’s annual scholarship program at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Charles E. Jordan High School, 6806 Garrett Road, Durham.

Orange Literacy

Orange Literacy’s eighth annual Writers for Readers fundraiser will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, at the William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education, 100 Friday Center Drive, Chapel Hill.

Daniel Wallace, author of “The Cat’s Pajamas,” will lead a discussion on the theme “writers from writers” with Benjamin Cheever, author of “Selling Ben Cheever and editor of “The Letters of John Cheever;” Robert Rubin, author of “On the Beaten Path;” and Rafael Yglesias, author of “The Wisdom of Perversity.”

The writers will talk about their experiences as children of famous writers, their work and the importance literacy. Tickets cost $100 and VIP tickets cost $135. orangeliteracy.org.

St. Paul Village
