▪ Chapel Hill Senior Ombuds Jim Huegerich earned the Golden Spoke Award earlier this month at the Golden Modes Awards presented by GoSmart N.C. GoSmart N.C. gives the Golden Spoke Award to recognize a person dedicated to using a bicycle to get to work. Huegerich has worked for the town of Chapel Hill since 1975 and has never taken a car to work.

▪ Chapel Hill was added to the list of Best Workplaces for Communters in the Triangle Region at the annual Golden Modes Awards.

▪ U.S. Air Force Airman Joshua E. Skulnik graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in Texas. He is a 2015 graduate of Cedar Ridge High School in Hillsborough.

▪ The Chatham County Board of Education earned the Special Award for Exemplary Boards at the 46th Annual Conference of the North Carolina School Boards Association in Greensboro earlier this month. Melissa Hlavac and Jane Allen Wilson both earned the Certificate of Recognition, Gary Leonard and Del Turner earned the Certificate of Advanced Achievement and David Hamm earned the Diploma of Honor.
