▪ Area students received top honors at the recent Star Talent regional dance competition. Grace Bailey attends Carrboro High School. Maria Campbell, Delaney Gavin and Alexa Simeonsson attend Northwood High School in Pittsboro. Samantha Shaw is a student at Woods Charter School in Chatham County.

▪ Denison University graduating senior Taylor Kessler Faulkner of Chapel Hill was awarded a President's Medal, the college’s highest honor for a student.

▪ Fouad Abd-El-Khalick has been selected as the new dean for the School of Education at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is currently the associate dean for research and research education in the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His appointment is effective July 1.

▪ The Town of Chapel Hill was among 14 North Carolina governments to earn recognition recently from the N.C. City & County Communicators. The town received first place for its annual report to the community, employee newsletter, brochure on the town’s bond referendum, external newsletter and social media campaign for Homegrown Halloween.

The award-winning projects were produced by Communications and Public Affairs Department staff members Catherine Lazorko, communications manager; Melanie Miller, graphic designer; and Ran Northam, communications specialist. Sabrina Oliver is director of Communications and Public Affairs.
