Edith “Mama Edie” S. Bradshaw, 93, passed away Saturday, December 13th at The Stratford in Chapel Hill, NC following a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Edith was born on July 25th, 1921 and grew up in Carrboro. She was married to the late Carl Braxton Sparrow of Mt Carmel for 22 years and had two children, Judith Lee and Patsy Jean Sparrow. Edith later married Bill Bradshaw and shared a life with him until he passed away in 1988. She was an employee of Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company for many years.
She enjoyed walking, reading and politics. Mama Edie also spent lots of time at Atlantic Beach with her grandchildren, daughters and Bill. She was a member of Mt Carmel Baptist Church for many years.
Edith is survived by her two daughters, Judith S Carroll and Patsy S Talbert. She is also survived by her three grandchildren: Tracy Carroll Lambe of Greensboro, NC, Steven Ray Upchurch of Raleigh, NC and Christopher Gene Upchurch of Saxapahaw, NC; and her 3 great-grandchildren: Kallee Leath Lambe, Thomas Ray Upchurch and Kaleb Andrew Lambe.

There will be no funeral, as Edith asked for privacy. Her ashes will be placed beside Bill at Antioch Baptist Church in the White Cross area near her home. Mama Edie will be missed…
