Teresa Gulermovich Ilinitch, 50, of Chapel Hill, NC passed away unexpectedly and peacefully in her sleep Monday Feb 3rd, 2014 in her home. Teresa was born on Feb 6th, 1963 in San Jose, California to Patricia Stocking Gulermovich and the late Andrew Gulermovich. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in Salinas, California in 1981, and went on to graduate from Stanford University, with distinction, in 1984. She received her Master’s of Social Work from San Jose State University and had begun a doctoral studies program at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, School of Social Work.
Teresa is survived by her husband and best friend, Ron Ilinitch, of Chapel Hill, NC her mother Patricia Stocking Gulermovich of Cary, NC her son David Hernandez of Watsonville, CA, her daughter and son-in-law Mara and Thomas Evans of Raleigh, NC and her beloved granddaughters Maya and Willa Evans.
A nationally renowned trainer and consultant, Teresa worked with the state of North Carolina Division of Health & Human Services prior to being recruited to the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Social Work. She made a lasting impact as a professor, clinical instructor, and field advisor. Teresa was passionate when it came to child welfare, foster care, and family involvement. She was most recently involved in innovative research related to the wellbeing of caretaking professionals. She will be remembered for caring deeply about all people who came into her life, as an inspirational mentor, teacher, and friend. Above all, Teresa cherished her family.
There will be a “Celebration of Life” event in her honor on March 1st, 2014 at Fearrington Village, NC. A scholarship fund has been set up and donations will be accepted in her name at the University of North Carolina, School of Social Work, Office of Development, CB#3550, 325 Pittsboro Street, Chapel Hill, NC 27599.
