Patricia Rose Johnston (Curnutt), born May 19, 1933, died April 16, 2014. Preceded in death by her high school sweetheart, soulmate and husband of fifty years, James Jordan Johnston in 2001, Pat was a voracious reader blessed with an inquisitive mind, a lively wit, a remarkable memory, a loving heart and a strong will. She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Shelley Johnston Day; her son, Douglas Johnston and his partner, Kathleen Davidson; her grandchildren, Brice Day, Kyle Day, Jeremy Johnston, Scott Johnston, Elizabeth Storrs; and her great-granddaughter, Makaylyn Storrs. Pat loved gardening in the North Carolina sunshine, visiting with her lovely neighbors and dear friends, near and far, recounting her worldwide travels with Jim, and reveling in every Tarheel victory! The family wishes to thank all of Pat’s neighbors for the love and support they provided Pat throughout a difficult fall and winter. Memorial contributions may be sent to: Make Room for Hope, Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill, 101 Old Mason Farm Rd, Chapel Hill, NC 27517 or to a charity of choice. A celebration of Pat’s life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Durham Friends Meeting at 404 Alexander Ave, Durham, NC 27705.
