Robin Lynn Burnette Ward is dancing with the Angels. She passed away on February 3, 2015 following a tragic accident. She was a sweet and gentle soul who was well loved by all that knew her.
Robin’s survivors and other family members are: Al Ward (husband) and their sons Jonathan (Ashley) and Michael; Al's mother, Caroline Ward and father Ira Ward (deceased) and Al’s brother, Bob (Ann) and their daughter, Katie Dickey (Will); Robin’s brother Jerry Burnette (deceased) (Sandy) and their son Doug Burnette (Kerry); Robin’s brother Michael Burnette (deceased) (Rose) and their sons Jeremy and Matthew Burnette; Robin’s sister Mary Burnette and her sons Alex, Woody and Casey; Robin’s cousins, Nancy Coleman McLellan and Ann Coleman Setzer (deceased). In addition to those noted above, Robin was predeceased by her father and mother, Robin Hood Burnette and Marjorie Wood Burnette, of Greenville, NC.
She was born in Beaufort County, NC on September 12, 1952, moved to Greenville, NC in her childhood and graduated with honors from East Carolina University with a major in Social Work. Robin met Al in New Bern while working there as a Social Worker with Craven County. Following her marriage to Al, they moved to Memphis, TN, where she worked as a Social Worker for Arlington Developmental Center. In 1984, Al and Robin were re-located to Greensboro, where she joined Guilford County’s Department of Social Services, until leaving that position in 1988 to stay home with our children.
She joined the Guilford County School System in 1996, first at Guilford Primary (now the Doris Henderson Newcomers School), then Western Guilford High School. In recent years, she worked at Page High School in the attendance office. She also worked part-time in Guest Services at the Greensboro Coliseum and was a volunteer for The Wyndham Golf Championship.
Robin was very active in PTA, sports and Scouts with and for her boys and had recently joined the Greensboro Women’s Club. She was an avid reader and loved to travel with her family. Robin and Al are enthusiastic Carolina fans and loved going to games of both Men’s and Women’s teams at UNC.
She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and extended families. We would also like to express our gratitude to all of the staff members of the ICU at 3 Midwest of Cone Hospital for the care given to Robin and her family during the time there.
A Celebration of Life for Robin is scheduled for February 22, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Trinity Church, 5200 West Friendly Ave, Greensboro, NC. In lieu of flowers, Al has requested the following: you may make a donation to the charity of your choice, a contribution to a local library, or simply take time and read to a child. That would be a treasured memorial to Robin.
