Irwin D. Levy, age 84, died December 20, 2015 at Carolina Meadows in Chapel Hill. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of Arthur and Celia Levy. He graduated from Queens College in New York with a degree in Chemistry and Economics. After two years in the Army, Irwin began a long and successful career in advertising that included tenures at Compton Advertising, Waring & LaRosa, and ultimately, Ogilvy & Mather, where he retired as Senior Vice President, Group Director in 1995.Known for his wit, charm and warmth, Irwin was beloved by friends and family alike. He was an avid reader and raconteur, enjoyed world travel and the arts, and had an incomparable knack for fixing that which needed fixing.He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Susan, their two sons Michael and Brian, and his five grandchildren, Lauren, Jessica, Henry, Amanda and Callum.Donations in his memory can be made to the Gift and Remembrance Fund at Carolina Meadows, 100 Carolina Meadows, Chapel Hill, NC 27517 to be used for Music at the Meadows and/or the Carolina Meadows Library.
