James Bowman Poteat passed away on January 17, 2016 in Chapel Hill, NC.Born in Buncombe County on September 9, 1930, Jim was raised in Charlotte, NC. A proud alumnus of the University of North Carolina where he received an undergraduate degree, a Master’s Degree in Library Science, and second Master’s Degree in Theater Arts, Jim’s love of the theater, opera, and music brought him to New York City, where he spent most of his adult life and where he met his devoted partner of more than 49 years, Jay Blender. Jim and Jay were married on Jim’s 80th birthday. Jim combined his interest in the arts, literature, and libraries in his professional life, having served as the Director of Information at the National Association of Broadcasters’ Television Information Office, and at the Museum of Radio and Television. Jim had also worked at the City of New York’s Law Library, a position he held until his retirement when he was in his mid ‘70’s. Jim was a very special person who was loved by all who knew him. He will be missed.A memorial service is planned May 25, 2016 in North Carolina.
