Kadarus Rone scored on runs of 1 and 32 runs in the first quarter and caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Ti Pinnix in the fourth quarter to slam the lid on Northwood’s 31-6 Big Eight victory Friday over Cardinal Gibbons.
Northwood (9-2, 5-2) used a 52-yard punt return by Darius Cole and Tyler Whitaker’s 16-yard field goal to go up 24-6 on Gibbons (6-5, 3-4) with 18 seconds left in the second quarter.
The win was expected to be the last at home for head coach Bill Hall, who announced before the season that this would be last leading the Chargers.
“I wish we would get another home game for the playoffs, but I don’t expect it,” Hall said shortly after being doused with water near midfield by his celebrating players.
