The next Heritage Tuesday lecture is scheduled for 3 p.m. Jan. 27 in the library at Johnston Community College, 245 College Road, Smithfield. Admission is free.
Eric Jackson, who teaches history at JCC, will speak on the life and times of Clayton native William Dodd, who was the U.S. ambassador to Germany in the early 1930s.
“He was an early outspoken critic of the Nazi regime,” Jackson said. “He paid the price for that criticism but was vindicated.”
Jackson will also talk about Dodd’s children. “His whole family led interesting lives, and this program will bring all facets of their lives to Johnston County citizens,” he sai.
Jackson, a native of Virginia, holds a bachelor’s degree in English and communications from Campbell University and a master’s degree in history from N.C. State University.
