Chest pain center earns accreditation

Johnston Medical Centers in Smithfield and Clayton have received Chest Pain Center accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care, an international nonprofit organization that focuses on transforming cardiovascular care by assisting facilities in their effort to create communities of excellence that bring together quality, cost and patient satisfaction.

The centers were evaluated by SCPC for their ability to assess, diagnose and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack, according to Suzette Rodriguez, hospital spokeswoman.

The medical centers encompass the entire continuum of care for heart patients and include the 911 Call Center for dispatch, Johnston County EMS for ambulance transport, interventional cath labs, emergency departments in Smithfield and Clayton, quality assurance plans and a community outreach program.
