Art contest announces winners

The Woman’s Club of Clayton has announced the student winners in its annual competition for students and club members.

The 34 first-place winners received cash prizes, and 27 second-place winners received ribbons.

About 75 students entered the competition. They came from Archer Lodge Middle, Clayton Middle, Riverwood Middle, Clayton High, Cleveland High, Corinth Holders High, West Johnston High and home schools.

The club announced its member winners at its January meeting. Those winners received ribbons.

First-place student and club winners will advance to the Woman’s Club district contest Feb. 21 in Beaufort. Winners on the district level will go to state competition March 7 at Campbell University in Buies Creek.

Student art will hang in The Clayton Center through January. The center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

During a reception to announce the student winners, Clayton Visual Arts presented $75 gifts to art teachers at the following schools:

Elementary – Cooper, Corinth-Holders, East Clayton, Powhatan, River Dell, Riverwood and West Clayton.

Middle – Archer Lodge, Clayton and Riverwood.

High – Clayton, Cleveland, Corinth Holders and West Johnston.
