Faith Notes: Aug. 20

Outdoor worship

“Worship in the Green,” an outdoor worship service, is scheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, on Town Square, 110 W. Main St., Clayton. Horne Memorial United Methodist Church will set up lawn chairs in advance. The Wilmington Celebration Choir will sing. ‘Last Days’ for students

“Last Days,” a summer rally for students, is scheduled from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Stillwater Ministries Camp, 1200 Cornwallis Road in the Cleveland community. The event will feature celebrity testimonies, horse-and-cart rides, a cornhole tournament, human foosball tournament, food, games, singing, dramas and a movie on the lawn.

DivorceCare in Clayton

A new DivorceCare group will launch Sept. 2 at Horne Memorial United Methodist Church, 121 E. Church St., Clayton. The group’s purpose is to help people going through separation and divorce find help, hope and healing through support, encouragement and a safe environment for sharing concerns. DivorceCare will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays for 14 weeks. The cost of the workshop is $15; the church can help with that cost. To register, go to horneumc.net. Marriage seminar

A seminar titled “Living a Five-Star Marriage” is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Horne Memorial United Methodist Church, 121 E. Church St., Clayton. This one-day seminar has five sessions focused on strengthening the relationship between spouses. The cost is $40 per couple. Golf tournament

A golf tournament to benefit Burnell Baptist Church will tee off at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at Reedy Creek Golf Course, 585 Reedy Creek Road, Four Oaks. The cost is $60 per person. For young people

Starting Aug. 27, AWANA, a club for students from age 4 through sixth grade, will begin meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 5217 Barber Mill Road, Clayton. A youth conference will take place Aug. 21-24 at Interstate Ministries, 4584 U.S. 70 Business. Here’s the schedule: 7 p.m. Thursday, with speaker Deron McLamb; 7 p.m. Friday, with Carmen Cole; 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Community Fun Day with food, games and a school-supply drive; 6 p.m. Saturday, youth musical; and 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday, with speakers.

Gospel music

A gospel sing is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Friendship Free Will Baptist Church, 6797 N.C. 231, Middlesex. Refreshments will follow the music.

The Dennis Family will sniff at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at Piney Grove Chapel Baptist Church, 4440 Piney Grove Road, Angier.

The Redeemed will sing at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at Sardis Baptist Church, 5444 Brogden Road, Smithfield.

Programs, services

Evangelist Hattie Lofton of Smithfield will speak during a women’s conference at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Deliverance Center Christian Church, 2419 Share Cake Road, Clinton. Lofton will speak during a Women’s Day Service at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at at Perry Temple Full Gospel Original Free Will Baptist Church, 5000 Tartt’s Mill Road, Wilson. She will speak at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 26-30 at at Galilee Baptist Church, Stoney Creek, Va.

Ice cream social

An ice cream social is scheduled from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Christ Community United Methodist Church, 1082 Amelia Church Road, Clayton. In addition to ice cream, the evening will offer games.

Talent show, spaghetti dinner

A talent night will get under way at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Smithfield Advent Christian Church at the corner of N.C. 210 and Galilee Road west of Smithfield. The church will serve a spaghetti supper at 5 p.m.
