Here’s the schedule of Sundown Concerts in the Singing Grove on Main Street in downtown Benson:
April 9 – The Embers featuring Craig Woolard.
May 14 – Too Much Sylvia.
June 11 – Band of Oz.
July 9 – the Attractions.
Aug. 13 – Jim Quick and the Coastline Band.
Sept. 24 – Russ Varnell and His Too Country Band.
The free concerts are at 5:30 p.m. In case of rain, they move to the American Legion Building, 605 N. Wall St.
Art, photography camps
The Clayton Parks and Recreation Department has scheduled the following summer camps. For more information, call 919-553-1550.
Youth art – 9 a.m.-noon June 22-26 or Aug. 3-7 for ages 9-12. Young people will create works of art based on everyday designs and images. The fee is $70 for Clayton residents and $85 for nonresidents.
Teen art – 9 a.m.-noon July 20-24 for ages 13-17. The fee is $70 for Clayton residents and $85 for nonresidents.
Photography – 1-5 p.m. July 27-31 for ages 11-16. A professional photographer will teach the camp; young people should bring their own digital camera. The fee is $70 for Clayton residents and $85 for nonresidents.
‘Seussical’ in Clayton
The Clayton High School Players will present “Seussical” at 7 p.m. April 23-25 and at 2 p.m. April 25 in the school auditorium, 600 S. Fayetteville St., Clayton. The evening shows are $10 for adults and $6 for students and children. The matinee is $5. Tickets will be available at the door.
Pottery in Smithfield
The Smithfield Parks and Recreation Department has scheduled two pottery classes at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center, 600 Booker Dairy Road.
Starting April 23, “Beginning Handbuilding” will meet from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays through June 4. This class is for students who want to make pottery without using the wheel. The fee is $100 for Smithfield residents and $125 for nonresidents. A 25-pound bag of clay is $20. It’s available at the SRAC.
Starting April 21, “Wheel Throwing” will meet from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays through May 26, also at the SRAC. The fee is $100 for Smithfield residents and $125 for nonresidents. A 25-pound bag of clay is $20.
Quilts, illustrations at JCC
Quilts by Johnston Community College students are on display through April 9 in the Frank Creech Art Gallery on JCC’s main campus, 245 College Road, Smithfield. Simultaneously, works by writer and illustrator Emily Wallace will be in the gallery lobby. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Admission is free.
Orchestra in Clayton
Jeremy Davis & The Fabulous Equinox Orchestra will perform Saturday, April 11, at The Clayton Center, 111 E. Second St., Clayton. Monthly art chat
Clayton Visual Arts Inc. sponsors Third Thursday Art Chat, a monthly gathering that offers artists a chance to share ideas, art products, resources, marketing tips, etc. The monthly chat is on the third Thursday of the month in the Poole Room in The Clayton Center, 111 E. Second St., Clayton. The chat starts at 6:30 p.m.
