Marsh M. Marshall

Marsh Montague Marshall, born January 17, 1928 at the foot of White Oak Mountain in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, received his promised resurrection on Saturday March 28, 2015. Marsh lived most of his life in Pittsylvania County being very proud of having come from this area. He graduated from George Washington High School in 1946 and from Danville Technical School with an Associate degree as the valedictorian of his class. Marsh served in the U S Army as a photographer. His passion and occupation was as a General Contractor which he did for over 40 years. The majority of this time he was self-employed, building and designing custom homes for families. During Marsh’s younger years he was an avid horseman. Later in life he enjoyed reading, keeping a journal of the books he read and reading the complete works of some of his favorite authors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin Carson Marshall and Alcora Mitchell Marshall of Dry Fork and Danville, Virginia; and his sister Geraldine Morris and her husband Dallas Morris III, of Danville Virginia.

Marsh is survived by his wife of 34 years, Reverend Betty Daniels Marshall of Gretna; daughter Julia Marshall Ellis and her husband Dr. David Ellis, grandson Dr. Jonathan Ellis and his wife Annie Ellis; great-granddaughters Abby and Claire; granddaughter Cathon Lawrence, great-granddaughter Brooklyn, great-grandson Carter all of Chester, VA; daughter Janice Marshall-Pittman, and her husband Augustus Fredrick Pittman III “Fred” of Norfolk, VA; granddaughter Marshall McClelland and her husband Dave McClelland of Leesburg, VA; granddaughter Augusta Pittman of Richmond, VA; daughter Heidi Lynn Maher of Gretna; grandson Sammy Robillos Jr., and his wife Erin Robillos; great-grandson Sammy Robillos, III of Richmond, VA; granddaughters Sidney Robillos of Modesto CA and Danielle Maher of Valley Mills, TX; son Ronald Jones, Jr, and his wife Melissa Jones; grandson Mason Jones; granddaughter Davice Jones all of Chatham, VA; granddaughter Sarah Shelton and her husband Dustin Shelton of Jonesborough, TN; nephews Dr. George Morris and his wife Glenda Morris of Danville, VA and David Morris and his wife Jean Morris of Durham, NC.

Family and friends will be received Wednesday April 1, 2015 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the home, located at 111 Oaklawn Terrace, Gretna.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday April 18, 2015; 11:00 AM at Watson Memorial United Methodist Church, located on Main Street in Chatham, VA.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial gifts be made payable to The James River Charge, in the name of M M Marshall Memorial fund. These designated gifts will be used to enhance property owned by The James River Charge of the United Methodist Church. Gifts may be mailed to 12341 S. Constitution Route, Scottsville, VA 24590.
