Gonzalez wins Bo Run

South Johnston sophomore Jacob Gonzalez won the boys championship race at the Bo Run cross country race at Greenville Conley High School on Saturday.

Gonzalez dominated the event, winning in 16 minutes, 27.61 seconds. South Lenoir’s Mason Zeagler was the runner up at 17:08.45.

Smithfield-Selma sophomore Caleb Silver finished 11th in the race at 17:38.12 and South Johnston’s Evan Raynor was 18th. South Johnston was fourth in the team standings.

The girls invitational run saw Smithfield-Selma’s Kara Harrison finish 11th.

Adidas XC Challenge: West Johnston senior Kyle Christ finished second in the boys championship division of the adidas XC Challenge at WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday. Christ clocked in at 15 minutes, 23.9 seconds.

South View’s Phillip Hall won in 15:12.1. Chris Perez of West ran 55th (16:26.3) and the Wildcats were 15th in the loaded 35-team field.

Gable Dershem of Cleveland finished 68th.

Corinth Holders’ girls was 29th in the 33-team girls field. Kayla St. Marie ran 51st to pace the Pirates. Cameron Rutherford was 64th.

In the boys invitational race, Clayton junior Alex Roy finished ninth at 16:23.4. Southeast Raleigh’s boys team finished 13th and the Comets were 27th in the 35-team invitational field.

The girls’ invitational race saw West Johnston and Clayton finish 18th and 19th, respectively, while Southeast Raleigh was 23rd. Jackie Kroger led West (87th) and Kayli Watson (95th) paced Clayton.

The races were held in conjunction with a college meet and four junior varsity races. Nearly 2,000 runners competed at the Park during the event.
