George Whitfield Baseball Clinic is Jan. 10
The baseball clinic run by North Carolina High School Athletic Association Hall of Famer George Whitfield is set for its 43rd annual renewal.
The clinic is scheduled for Goldsboro High School on Saturday, Jan. 10, and features another tremendous lineup of high school, college and professional coaches and scouts. Registration is scheduled from 7:30 to 9 a.m, and the clinic will run until 6 p.m.
The clinic is open to all players from Little League through high school, and all coaches at any level are welcome. High school and middle school coaches may receive one unit of continuing education credit. The fee is $60 per person before Jan. 3. Registration on the day of the event is $70 per person.

Grinch Stink, Stank, Stunk 5K Run & Jingle Bell Jog
The annual Grinch Stink, Stank, Stunk 5K Run & Jingle Bell Jog will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6, in Smithfield. The race collects toys and raises funds to benefit Harbour House and the Johnston County DSS Angle Tree Project. The registration fee is one unwrapped new toy. Participants can come dressed as their favorite Who from Whoville as part of the costume contest. Dogs are also welcome. Register early at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center or on the day of the race beginning at 8:30 a.m. The Grinch will arrive around 9:30 a.m. T-shirts are available to those who register by Nov. 24 for a $15 fee. The Smithfield-Selma Sports Academy Basketball organization is looking for people within the community who are interested in serving as coaches and mentors to the youth of our area. The Johnston County Horse Show Series dates for 2014 are set. These shows are open to all riding disciplines and equine breeds. The final show of the 2014 schedule, the Christmas Charity Show is set for Nov. 22. Proceeds from sponsorship of classes during the show help support the St. Ann Church Food Pantry and C.O.R.R.A.L. charities. More than $700 was raised last year.
