Why Randolph-Macon? “I liked the coaches and every time I visited the football players there I really connected with them. They have great football facilities. I could just see myself there more than any place else.”
Notable: Cole could line up at either defensive back or a slot receiver at Randolph Macon. He was a standout quarterback for Corinth Holders the past two seasons, throwing for 2,627 yards, 27 touchdowns and only four interceptions. The Pirates shared the Two Rivers 3A Conference title this past fall. … He will be making the adjustment to playing something other than quarterback after two years of limited play elsewhere. Since he was such an important part of the Pirate offense, coaches didn’t want to risk injury by playing him on defense even though he could have been a key cog. … Cole plays bigger than his 5-foot-7 height, but he’s adjusted to live as a smaller football player. “I realized during my freshman year that my dreams of being 6-3 or 6-4 weren’t going to come true,” he said. “I just decided that I would work harder than anybody else. Working hard is a must for anybody who is undersized.” ... He is still debating his major, considering mainly business or physical therapy.
Former Corinth Holders coach Barry Honeycutt: “One of the things that has carried Cole is his competitive nature. He’s not the tallest guy, but he’s got good speed, is strong for his size and really competes and loves football. He will be a guy who finds a way on the football field quickly because of his skills and desire.”
