Archer Lodge Spring sports

Basic Fly-Fishing Clinics
The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will offer a basic, one-day fly-fishing clinic Jan. 30 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the John E. Pechmann Fishing Education Center in Fayetteville. The Joan Wulff method of fly-casting will be taught along with instruction on fly-fishing equipment and knot-tying. The clinic is opened to ages 13 and up (ages 13-15 must be accompanied by an adult). Each clinic is limited to 40 participants. The fee is $5, payable on the day of the event. Lifeguard training classes in Smithfield
The Smithfield Parks and Recreation Department will be offering American Red Cross Lifeguard Training this spring. Participants must be at least 15 years old, pass a pre-course swim test, attend 100 percent of the classes in your session, and not mix sessions. The fee is $200-225. (A non-refundable deposit of $25 is due with each application.) Contact the SRAC for swim test requirements.

First Session — Sunday, Feb. 21, 2-4 p.m.; Friday, Feb. 26, 3-8pm; Saturday, Feb. 27, 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.; Sunday, Feb. 28, 1-7 p.m.

Piedmont Bass Classics tournaments
The Piedmont Bass Classics tournament trail fishing events have been set for the 2016 season and run from March through June. Events are held at Shearon Harris, Jordan, Kerr, Falls and Mayo lakes. The PBC Spring Opens and Invitational tournaments start Feb. 27 at Shearon Harris and run through June. New this year are events for boats with 150 horsepower or less and aluminum boats with 115 horsepower or less. Pre-season soccer prep

Intermediate Fly-Fishing Clinic
The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will offer a one-day fly fishing clinic on Feb. 13 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the John E. Pechmann Fishing Education Center in Fayetteville. The clinic will introduce participants to line-hand, false casting, casting on all planes and the shooting line. The clinic is opened to ages 13 and up (ages 13-15 must be accompanied by an adult).
