Blood donations

A blood drive will be from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and noon to 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Alfonso Elder Student Union, 507 Nelson St.

Donate blood to the American Red Cross from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Duke University’s Bryan Center, 120 Science Drive.

Donations may also be made from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at City of Medicine Academy, 301 Crutchfield St. redcrossblood.org.

Senior Health Fair

The Senior Health Fair is 2-4 p.m. at Preiss Steele Place, 500 Pickwick Trail.

Northgate Jams

Northgate Mall’s old time, bluegrass and country jam sessions are 6-9 p.m. Wednesdays near the mall’s Center Court, 1058 W. Club Blvd. All musicians are welcome.

Kiwanis Club of Durham

The Kiwanis Club of Durham meets at 12:30 p.m. Thursdays at Hope Valley Country Club, 3803 Dover Road. kiwanisclubofdurham.org.

Young Adult Book Club

A book club for people of all ages who read the young adult genre meets at 6 p.m. to talk about “A Madness So Discreet” by Mindy McGinnis at The Regulator, 720 Ninth St.

‘How Durham Changed Us and We Changed Durham’

Frank Stasio and a panel of retired clergy will discuss “How Durham Changed Us and We Changed Durham” at 7 p.m. at the Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro St.

Jump for Literacy

Sky Zone Trampoline Park will raise money for the Durham Literacy Center from 5-10 p.m. Friday. Sky Zone of Durham is also collecting donations of household items for the Durham Genesis home through Nov. 30 and used books for the literacy center through Nov. 20. Donors will get a $2 coupon for open jump admission. The event is at 1720 Guess Road, suite 90. skyzone.com/durham.

Ari Berman will read from his book, “Give Us the Ballot,” at 6 p.m. at The Regulator, 720 Ninth St.

Type 1 Diabetes MeetUp

The Type 1 Diabetes MeetUp group gathers at 7 p.m. at Growler Grlz/Randy’s Pizza, 4810 Hope Valley Road, #110. The group’s free and open to anyone with type 1 diabetes, as well as their partners (and dogs). ginkgoihc@gmail.com.

Farmers’ markets

The Durham Farmers’ Market is open from 8 a.m. to noon at 501 Foster St. durhamfarmersmarket.com.

The South Durham Farmers’ Market is open from 9 a.m. to noon in the Greenwood Commons Shopping Center at 5410 N.C. Highway 55.

Discovery Nook and Santa Claus at Northgate Mall

Santa Claus comes to Northgate Mall from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 1058 W. Club Blvd. Santa’s Workshop art and entertainment for kids starts that morning and continues through Dec. 19.

Storyteller Willa Brigham and the new Durham County Library Bookmobile will be at Northgate Mall from 12:30-2:30 p.m.

Durham Chess Club

The Durham Chess Club meets for casual chess from 2-4:30 p.m. Saturdays at the North Regional Library, 221 Milton Road. Sets, boards and instructions are provided. All ages and skill levels are welcome. 919-479-7020, cconero@aol.com.
