Blood drive

A blood drive for the American Red Cross will be from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Kestrel Heights High School, 4700 S. Alston Ave. Others will be from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Durham VA Medical Center, 508 Fulton St., and from 2-7 p.m. at the Durham Blood Donation Center, 4737 University Place. redcrossblood.org.

The Durham Farmers’ Market will be open from 3:30-6:30 p.m. at 501 Foster St. durhamfarmersmarket.com.

South Durham Farmers’ Market

The South Durham Farmers’ Market will be open from 3:30-6:30 p.m. in the Greenwood Commons Shopping Center at 5410 N.C. Highway 55.

Lupus support group

‘The Silent Sister’

Science book group

The Science book group will meet to talk about “The Unfolding of Language” by Guy Deutscher at 7:30 p.m. at 5400 New Hope Commons.

Golden Dippers Square Dance Club

The Golden Dippers Square Dance club will host an open house from 7-9:30 p.m. at Bethany United Methodist Church, 2809 Guess Road. Anyone age 16 or older is welcome.

Friday

Shriners’ Fish Fry

The Triangle Shrine Club of Durham will host a Fish Fry from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the parking lot of 3404 N. Duke St. Plates cost $8 each.

Saturday

Durham Farmers’ Market

The Durham Farmers’ Market will be open from 8 a.m. to noon at 501 Foster St. durhamfarmersmarket.com.

South Durham Farmers’ Market

The South Durham Farmers’ Market will be open from 8 a.m. to noon in the Greenwood Commons Shopping Center at 5410 N.C. Highway 55.

Educator Breakfast Reception

Barnes & Noble will host a complimentary lunch for teachers from 10 a.m. to noon at 5400 New Hope Commons. Teachers will recieve a 25 percent discount on classroom and personal purchases and a 10 percent discount on music and movies.

Leigh Farm Park

A grand opening celebration for the renovated Leigh Farm Park will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 370 Leigh Farm Road. There will be a ribbon-cutting, tours, kids’ activities and music.

Story time

Children’s book author Ellen Fischer will read her book, “If an Armadillo Went to a Restaurant,” to ages 2-6 at 11 a.m. at The Regulator Bookshop, 720 Ninth St.

Durham Chess Club
