Community Fundraisers: Nov. 19

Thanksgiving food drive

The Durham Center for Senior Life is collecting food donations to make a Thanksgiving dinner for 200 seniors throughout Durham. The center is seeking donations of turkeys, hams, hens, dressing, potatoes, gravy, vegetables and desserts. Food can be delivered from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 406 Rigsbee Ave., suite 202, Durham.

Food and Toys for Fines

The Orange County Public Library will accept donations of nonperishable food and toys in exchange for reduced library fines through Friday, Dec. 12.

Each nonpershable food donation will deduct $1 from the customer’s library fine balance. Pet food can also be donated. A new, unwrapped toy in its original packaging can be donated to eliminate all of the customer’s library fines. orangecountync.gov/library.

Southern States Holiday Food Drive

Southern States Cooperative will collect canned goods and nonperishable items through Monday, Dec. 15, at 300 N. Greensboro St., Carrboro. southernstates.com.

Holiday crafts

The Orange County Department on Aging and the Friends of the Central Orange Senior Center will host a holiday craft fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Central Orange Senior Center, 103 Meadowlands Drive, Hillsborough. The craft show will feature jewelry, pottery, quilts, leather work, wood work, art and food.


The Thanks-For-Giving dinner will raise money for Anathoth Community Garden & Farm from 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Pleasant Green Community Center, 4966 Pleasant Green Community Center Road, Durham. There will be live music, stories and a silent auction. Free babysitting is provided. Tickets cost $100 each. anathothgarden.org.

Holiday auction

The Orange County Rape Crisis Center’s 27th Annual Holiday Auction will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, at the Sheraton Chapel Hill, 1 Europa Drive. Author Sarah Dessen will speak. The auction includes Disney World passes, vacation packages, artwork, jewelry and more. Tickets cost $90 each. 919-968-4647, ocrcc.org/auction.

Triangle Youth Ballet

Southern Season will donate 10 percent of sales from a private shopping event to Triangle Youth Ballet from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, at 201 S. Estes Drive, Chapel Hill. Tickets cost $10. conta.cc/1xhVJZI.


The Scrap Exchange will host the fourth annual Smashfest fundraiser from 4-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, at 2050 Chapel Hill Road, Durham. Admission is free. Breakable items like mirrors, plates and ceramics will be for sale to be smashed (or rescued from being smashed). scrapexchange.org.
