Ashanta Branigan

of Durham has been named to the Dean’s List at Berkeley College for the Summer 2014 quarter. To achieve the Dean’s List, Branigan had to have a GPA of 3.50 or bettter with a minimum of 12 academic credits.


Lisa Crose,

PhD, was recently awarded $450,000 for research into rhabdomyosarcoma by Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. Crose will receive an “A” award, which is designed for young scientists who want to establish their career in pediatric oncology.

• Marine Corps

Pvt. Nicholas O. Farlow

earned the title of United States Marine after graduating from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island on Nov. 21, 2014. Farlow completed 13 weeks of intensive basic training at MCRD Parris Island as one of 89 recruits in Training Platoon 2088, Golf Company. While in recruit training, Pvt. Farlow achieved expert qualification in rifle marksmanship and earned the National Defense Service Medal. Following ten days home on leave he will report to School of Infantry-East for two months at Infantry Training Battalion. Pvt. Farlow is the son of Gary and Teresa Farlow of Durham, and is a 2014 graduate of Northern High School in Durham.
