Ethel Viola, formerly of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, on July 10, 2017. Ethel died peacefully surrounded by her family and under the compassionate care of UNC Hospice. She was almost 94 years young. Ethel grew up in the Bronx and spent most of her life in NJ until she moved to Chapel Hill in 2002. She was an avid ballroom dancer and instructor for over 35 years. She was the Administrative Supervisor for a NJ engineering and architectural firm and Administrator to the Dean of the Seton Hall College of Dentistry in NJ. Ethel remained interested in learning throughout her life. In her retirement years she embarked on new adventures, immersing herself in computers, photography, pool, Mah Jong, and Peer Learning. She was a loving matriarch who is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Cole of Chapel Hill, granddaughter Rachael Cole, and great grandson Alexander van Grunsven. A celebration of her life will be held at later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to PORCH Chapel Hill-Carrboro, PO Box 16363, Chapel Hill, NC 27516-6363 to benefit local families at risk of food insecurity.
