Robert Joe Ruffini, 82, passed away peacefully Friday, May 6, 2016 at Searstone Brittany Place. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 10 at 3:00 pm in the Searstone Clubhouse with a reception to follow. Robert was born in Cadiz, Ohio to Abel and Beryl Ruffini. He graduated from Shaker Heights high school where he was a star on the basketball team and a state champion runner on the 4x440 relay team. He graduated from Duke University in 1956 where he was captain of the golf team. He then served as an active duty officer in the Navy for three years stationed in Morocco.At Duke, Bob met his wife of 58 years, Susan (Erwin).After serving in the Navy, Bob worked in financial positions at General Electric and United Technologies. His work took him and his family to Cleveland, OH, Schenectady, NY, Port Washington, NY, Limerick Ireland and Avon, CT. After retirement Bob and his wife moved to Palmyra, VA, Durham, NC and Cary, NC.Bob was a wonderful husband, father and provider for his family. He had a great passion for golf which he passed on to his family. He won championships on his own but he was most proud of the tournaments he won with his father, his wife, his son, and his daughter. Bob was an avid reader and enjoyed books on history, politics, sports and kept up with the financial news in the daily newspaper.Bob is survived by his wife Susan, his son Stephen Ruffini and wife Marc, daughter Carol Hauser and husband Ken, daughter Ellen Cannon and husband Richard, brother John Ruffini, grandchildren, Catie (Will) McGrath, Claire Ruffini, Greg Ruffini, Rebecca (Jacques) Steyn, Robert Hauser, Eileen Cannon, Corinne Cannon, Mary Kate Cannon, and great granddaughter, Eloise McGrath.Memorial contributions may be sent to the Michael J.
