Tsunami of memories
I’m sitting in a Smoothie King ruining the store’s complimentary copy of the Durham News with my tears. Thank you, Tom Gasparoli, for resurrecting the beautiful spirit of Cassandra “Sandy” Freeman.
I was – sorry, I am – Cassandra’s pastor. She was an integral and vibrant part of the founding generation of Abundant Hope Christian Church here in Durham. I had the heavy burden and beautiful privilege of eulogizing Sandy. Reading your words unleashed a tsunami of memories. Images of her beauty, infectious smile, intellect, love for her children, and fierce advocacy for everyone else’s left this newspaper no chance.
I usually read the opinion page shaking my head in disgust. Today it is simply bowed in grateful reverence for a life well lived. Thank you Brother Tom.
