Buses are better
The light rail transit project should be stopped. It is ineffective everywhere it is tried. There is zero federal transportation data for any system in the black.
Rapid bus is far more efficient and flexible.
No Plan B
It’s irresponsible that Triangle Transit (GoTriangle) hasn’t worked on a Plan B when there is so much money at stake, very real transportation needs, and never any guarantee of successful funding.
Do the math
Unless your starting point and destination are each within a quarter of a mile of a station (less for senior citizens), you're not going to use light uail. If you have to haul a lot stuff, you won’t use it.
If you do the math, that makes the probability of using light rail exceeding low ... less than 1 percent for most trips according to my calculation. Ligh rail should therefore be ditched.
Naysayers proved wrong
All sorts of naysayers in Charlotte said similar stuff about the Lynx, but they were proved wrong.
The proposed Durham-Orange Light Rail Transit line is pretty useful to people going to work at the hospital, most of whom are not nearly making doctors’ pay.
The big picture of this is the people in Raleigh don't want you to have this light rail at all, or any other region for that matter. If they don’t pay for it, the feds will probably demand their money back and then it could be 10 or more years before the line gets on the table again.
This is not a move to slow down progress so improvements can be made. It’s sabotage to kill it.
