N.C. Central basketball has its biggest road games of the year coming up Saturday, when the Eagles head over to Greenbsoro to face N.C. A&T State.
The men’s teams meet at 6 p.m. in the Corbett Sports Center. That game is preceded by the NCCU women (5-15, 3-5 MEAC) versus at A&T (12-10, 5-4) at 4 p.m. Saturday.
NCCU’s men were 16-6 overall and still undefeated (8-0) in MEAC play heading into Monday's game with Florida A&M, which was played too late for inclusion in Wednesday's edition of The Durham News. (See www.nccueaglepride.com for results.) The Aggies were 6-17, 3-6 MEAC.
Reed named head coach of Bull City Legacy
Marvin “Rat” Reed, coach of Faith Assembly Christian Academy’s Lions, has been named as the new head coach of the Bull City Legacy of the Tobacco Road Basketball League.
Reed’s appointment came on the heels of Bull City’s announcement Jan. 29 that Fred Whitaker had resigned.
Whitaker coached the Legacy to a 7-6 record and a TRBL playoff spot last year. This season, Bull City is off to a 3-2 start but has not played a game since a 127-114 win against the High Point Heat on Jan. 3.
Reed, a Durham native, played basketball at Hillside High School and then North Carolina Central University. While playing with NCCU, Reed helped the Eagles win the 1989 NCAA Division II national championship.
Reed previously coached at Mount Zion High School in Durham, and currently coaches the Lions of Faith Assembly Christian Academy.
Reed will be assisted by another Durham native, Andre McCollum. After graduating from Hillside, McCollum played at Cal State Bakersfield and then in various pro leagues.
The Legacy is scheduled to return to action Feb. 7, when it hosts Triangle Run N’ Gun at 5 p.m. in Walltown Recreation Center. Run N’ Gun features the TRBL’s top scorer, Milan Prodanovic, who averages 28.3 points a game.
