Commuters who travel through the intersection at Knightdale Boulevard and Smithfield Road will see some construction during the next few months. A right turning lane is being added to the intersection where drivers turn south onto Smithfield Road from Knightdale Boulevard. The road widening should ease access through this busy area, and make the transition a simpler process for drivers. The project will continue this fall, and will likely be complete in December.
A separate project on Old Crews Road has been extended. A new subdivision is going in on Old Crews Road just north of Forestville Road, and work crews are installing a drainage system. A recent rain physically moved some of the new infrastructure during construction, so the project has been extended another two to three weeks.
NCDOT is also involved, because the road is owned and maintained by the state. Detours signs will remain in place until the project is complete in late August or early September.
