American Legion

Sons of Confederate Veterans

The Col. Henry K. Burgwyn/East Wake Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at Boulevard Pizza, 2925 Wendell Blvd., Wendell. Neal “Robert E. Day of Giving

Knightdale Eyecare will hold provide free eye exams and glasses to the first 100 people who show up at the office, located at 742 McKnight Drive, Knightdale, on Friday, Aug. 22, starting at 7 a.m.

Barbecue and yard sale

The Wendell Masonic Lodge #565 and Eastern Star Chapter #87 will hold a barbecue and yard sale from 7:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 23, in the parking lot behind Agave Mexican Bar & Grill, at the corner Third and Cypress Streets in Wendell. Barbecue will be $10 per pound and must be picked up before noon. Proceeds will benefit the Masonic Home for Children in Oxford. Call 919-266-6032 for more information.

Bookbag jamboree

Several churches and community resource groups are uniting to put on a book-bag jamboree Saturday, Aug. 23, from 2-4:30 p.m. at the Zebulon Boys & Girls Club to help prepare children for the upcoming school year. In addition to giving out book bags, popcorn and information at the expo-like event, booster bags will also be provided for mothers who attend. The club is located at 1320 Shepard School Road in Zebulon.

Cub Scout roundup

Cub Scout Pack 522 will hold is annual “Round Up” for the new scout year at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at Zebulon Baptist Church, 400 N. Arendell Ave., Zebulon. The pack meets at 7 p.m. Monday nights at Zebulon Baptist.

Community garden class

Wake Tech Community College will offer a community garden class from 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, Aug. 18 through Sept. 15, and 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 19 through Sept. 11, at its Eastern Wake Education Center, 519 Industrial Drive, Zebulon. Little Miss & Mr. Wendell

The Little Miss & Mr. Wendell contest will be held Oct. 3 and 4 at the Wendell Harvest Festival. Contestants will ride a float at 10 a.m. Oct. 4 in the festival parade, and will gather at the town square stage at 11:30 a.m., where each contestant will be introduced and winners will be crowned. Pigeon Forge trip

Abrakadoodle, for ages 20 months to 12 years old, meets Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings. at the Knightdale Recreation Center, 101 Lawson Ridge Road, Knightdale. Twoosy (20 months to 3 years old) will be offered from 9-9:45 a.m. Saturday and 4-4:45 p.m. Tuesday. Mini-Doodler (3 and a half to 5 years old) will be offered from 10-10:45 a.m. Saturday and 4-4:45 p.m. Thursday. Doodler (5 and a half to 12 years old) will be offered from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday.
