May 10th through May 16th was set aside as this year’s National Police Memorial Week<http://www.nleomf.org/programs/policeweek/>. All across the country, agencies and officers will be participating in special ceremonies and events to honor the lives of those men and women who have fallen in the line of duty.
It is a very special time for our profession, but a somber one as well. As we cherish the memory of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our communities, we are reminded of the high calling that compels us all to serve our fellow man. Despite the dangers and rigors of law enforcement, I know I speak for every member of the Knightdale Police Department in saying that we count it a privilege to serve this community.
So, I am writing today with a request that you take a moment to reflect on the memory of those brave men and women who have given their lives in service to us. I am also asking that you purposefully seek out a police officer and express your appreciation for the job they do day in and day out. The valiant souls who wear the badge everyday are often exposed to some of the worst situations imaginable, and over time, the stress weighs heavy on them. If an opportunity presents itself in the coming days, please let these heroes know how much we appreciate their sleepless nights of patrols so that we may rest in the comfort of the security they provide.
Please know that we appreciate the show of support you give us throughout year. Your prayers, appreciation and encouragement – especially during times like these – mean more than you will ever know. As always, never hesitate to call on us if we can be of service.
