What does citizenship mean? As citizens of the United States, we are required to obey the laws, serve on juries when asked and pay taxes.
We are not required to serve in the Armed Forces, though encouraged. We are asked, but not required to vote. We should show respect for those who serve our country in the military as well as those who are serve us as police officers and firefighters, for they put their lives on the line every day to protect us.
We also should protect on honor our flag, for which so many have fought and died. In honor of our fallen soldiers, Boy Scout Troop 524 based out of Zebulon Baptist Church, placed an American flag at the headstone of every veteran in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.
While not only showing honor to these fallen men and women, it provided an opportunity for the Scouts to learn about the previous wars in history as well as find ancestors they did not realize they had.
The Boy Scouts would like to say thank you to all the veterans and for the opportunity to honor you.
