At a town board meeting last Monday night, Wendell commissioners had a relatively light agenda. There were just three items to discuss beyond the routine matter of approving meeting minutes, the opening invocation and so forth.
The agenda got quite a bit lighter when the board opted didn’t deal with two of the three items because of the absence of one commissioner.
Both items were placed on the agenda by commissioner Sam Laughery and he was absent from Monday night’s meeting.
While it is a courtesy to have the commissioner with interest in a certain topic present at a meeting to discuss it, the matter shouldn’t have to fall into political purgatory because one commissioner isn’t available.

Monday night’s meeting proved to be more of an exercise in futility than a productive session. We would encourage commissioners to come to meetings prepared to discuss the matters on the agenda, regardless of who may not be there.
