Wendell commissioners got an earful Monday night from people who opposed the town’s proposed transportation plan.
That plan, which offers general guidance for the town’s future road needs, drew criticism from property owners, developers and even a few lawyers. Commissioners backed away from a decision in the face of such withering criticism and agreed to go back to the drawing board.
Whatever plan comes along next, though, is sure to have an equal number of people opposed to it, though they will likely be a different set of affected residents.
At the end of the day, the town must develop a plan that makes the most sense for managing traffic in Wendell, which will surely grow as the town does. The planning board didn’t offer the commissioners much help when they chose to forward the plan with no recommendation.
Now the plan will go back to the planning board and, eventually, will return to commissioners. It’s a tough thing to do, but commissioners need to adopt a plan that serves the entire area, even if that means discomfiting some property owners.
