Holiday Invitational

Three of the top five high school junior basketball players in the country (and Canada) are expected to play in the Holiday Invitational in December at Broughton High School.

Thon Maker, a 7-footer who is the top-ranked player in the Class of 2016, has transferred to Kitchener (Ontario) Athlete Institute. Harry Giles, 6-10 and ranked No. 2, plays at High Point Wesleyan and No. 5 Dennis Smith (6-2) is at Fayetteville Trinity Academy.

The field also includes No. 20 junior Jamal Murray (6-3) of Athlete Institute and No. 53 junior Kwe Parker (6-1) of High Point Wesleyan.

Area boys teams include 2014 4A champion Apex, Broughton, Garner, Knightdale, Leesville Road, Millbrook, Ravenscroft and Raleigh Word of God.

The girls tournament at Cary Academy features Athens Drive, Broughton, East Wake, Durham Hillside, Knightdale, Millbrook, Durham Riverside and Williamston Riverside.
