Parents: Keith and Vicky McCue

High School: Knightdale

Also swims for: Capital Area Swim Team, Planter’s Walk summer team, Lifetime Fitness year-round team

Also considered: Pfeiffer University

Why Catawba? “For the academics.”

Major: Environmental Science

Specialty: Freestyle

Notable: McCue is expected to pick up his fourth varsity letter in swimming this winter. He is a three-time Greater Neuse River Conference All-Academic selection and two-time All-Conference selection. His most memorable time at Knightdale, so far, has been winning the 100 freestyle in the 2013-14 conference championship. “I remember I was tired,” he recalled of finishing the event. “I didn’t realize I had won until after the meet.” McCue’s also stayed busy outside the pool as a member of the National Honor Society and an Eagle Scout. He also enjoys biking, camping and hiking.

First-year Knightdale swimming coach Morgan Rutledge knew she had help on her side this winter when she met McCue. “He’s an excellent leader and has really been vital helping me transition with a new team. He’s been a big help with everyone on the team, not just me.” ... The coach described McCue as the kind of team member who is the first one in the pool and the last to leave practice. “I think he’s really going to be able to shine in a program like (Catawba).”
